  • Breaking The Leopard Print Taboo

I've always found leopard print clothing rather vulgar. I'm not too sure what it is about it, but it just  spells out T-A-C-K-Y to me. Big time.

I generally take the piss out of leopard print clothing, much to the delight of my best friend, with whom I  have an anti-leopard print joke running. It's more so the brown/gold leopard print that I hate, but lately,  I've been tempted by some pieces.

And today, I broke the leopard print taboo. I gave in to temptation and brought a cute undergarment.  But I didn't give myself wholly over to the leopard print. Oh no. I picked the white and black version.  What's the difference, I here you ask, well there's a huge difference.

We all know how timeless black and white are together. There's something classical about the stark  contrast. And so I told myself, "It's okay Danielle,  you're not completely going to the dark side, just this  once you can have this. Just this once. And it's not like it's going to see the light of day. Your secret is  safe."

Caution was thrown to the wind, and my new purchase now sits comfortably in a drawer awaiting it's  debut.

It's funny how something you've hated for so long, can suddenly grow on you, from out of nowhere you're hit with this thought that for once, it isn't that bad.

I think I'll applaud myself in welcoming a bit of change. *gives a standing ovation to self*

So tell me my fellow wonderful Xangan's, what's something you have hated and then suddenly embraced?

  • Sneaker Love

So after finally acquiring my job two months ago, my eyes landed on something that has started somewhat of a sneaker addiction.

Tales of NASA turning down lightweight technology and Nike snapping it up quick smart only added to my intrigue. It's loud pinkness and minuscule weight (5.5 ounces!) had me foaming at the mouth.

Isn't she lovely? Isn't she wonderful?

Initially made for the Olympians at Beijing, 21 Mercer Street got these Lunar Racer's in five exclusive colour ways. And I was lucky enough to snap up a pair of pink ones our boss had been able to get. Alllllllright! High five to me!

My latest acquisition was love at first sight. The boldness, the classic style. Oh my, I'm gushing already. I simply had to get a pair.

The Air Max 90 Vivid Blues are not to be confused with the Laser Blues which is the other OG brother to the infrared Air Max 90's. Nevertheless, the Vivid Blues are still a much loved sneaker by many and aren't the easiest to come across. They look amazing on and are sooo comfy. Best purchase ever.

I'm a self-confessed Sneaker Noob, but I figure it's better late than never. Am I right, or am I right?

Jordan III True Blue release this Saturday! It's going to be epic!

  • Show & Tell: Kiwi Sarcasm ftw!

Interestingly enough, this week's been pretty crap. Possibly my father being drunk for dinner on Tuesday cursed me. I'm still pretty dark about that. Way to be respectful dad.

Anywho, in light of my crap week, I thought I'd share a little something from the good ol Kiwi Culture... Sarcasm! Woo! And beer! Even better. I present to you the Tui Billboards. Often controversial but always a good laugh. At least you foreigners will get the following...

You all won't know this one, but it was when the NZRU passed on Robbie Deans to coach the All Blacks.
I'm still dark on that too.

    Sarcasm = love.

  • Dearest Ted

With all due respect Sir, I do believe you could be doing a hell of a lot better with the All Blacks at the moment.

First and foremost, I'll tell you right now that I wasn't too fond of your being reinstated as the All Black's Head Coach until the 2011 Rugby World Cup. I believed we needed a little change and Deans was the way of the future. He still is, except he's the way of the future for the Australians. I won't pretend I'm not still bitter about that.

I know we're a brand new team and it's not as experienced as it used to be. I understand that we're missing some men due to injuries. But I'm one of the few who won't kick you when you're already down on the ground. To be a great team, you need to work on that. You need to have your players gelling correctly, you need set plays to work. You need the game to flow. I understand that fully. And when people were ripping into you for the poor performance last week, I defended you. Just like I defended the Crusaders.

I know we have it in us. We are not the best rugby team in the world for nothing.

However, I need you to do something for me.

I need you to get your act together. I need you to iron out the creases in our attack and defence. I need you to make the correct choices for players.

I'm not a world class coach, but I can tell you some of the problems we're having. They're simple ones. Ball handling. We need to clean up our handling errors. Marking our man. In the last two games, that has been a major problem. Men aren't marking up and it's creating huge gaps on the wings. It's right there for the world to see. We need to practice on our tackling. There was too many missed tackles that should not have been missed. If those three things were tidied up, we'd be playing so much better. It would be so much nicer to watch.

We're not perfect in any way, shape or form. But we can be the best we can be. We have the talent. Please, use it wisely.

You were lucky on Saturday. Very lucky. Scraping in with six points, when I know, you know, we all know that we should be doing better.

I wish you the best for the Tri-Nations, but I also hope you'll get your selections right. We need these wins. You need these wins. The nation need these wins. I implore you, give us the results we all know you can give us.

    Sincerely yours,

    Danielle

  • You Know What They Say About Big Feet...

    Big socks!

Oh yeah. I did just say that. And what? That's how I roll.

Unfortunately for me, I do have big feet. That does indeed mean big socks, but it also means I generally fit some sweet mens shoes that my other smaller footed female counterparts cannot. Suck on that ladies!

It also means that when I'm getting my new uniform at work, I'm limited to what I can get in the way of womens shoes. Curse these size 11us paddles.

Luckily for me, I'm being hooked up with a sweet pair of Delta High Lite's this time around.

Working at a Nike store = freaking amazing!

I fear I've been turned to the sneaker side. The manager who I work with all the time is a crazy sneaker head and it's rubbing off on me really bad. I'm considering signing myself up to NikeTalk. My introductory course has been going smoothly, memorising all the acronyms is a toughie. I'm pretty sure I'll get hard out into it, but probably not in a die-hard-must-collect-all-the-OG-shoes-ever-created-that-I-drool-over way.

My current obsession is the Air Jordan One, in the black and white colourway. They're utterly amazing. I have to have them. Now.. Unfortunately you can't get them in little old NZ. There was a release of the Bulls/Celtics pack last Saturday, but I couldn't justify the $460 for two pairs I won't be completely happy with.

I guess I'll just have to fantasise for a while until I can get my mits on a pair. Le sigh.

Heads up to any sneaker heads in NZ, the Air Jordan 3 True Blue is out on the 8th of August. Hit up the Platinum stores in CHCH, Welly and Aux, first in first served!
